Introduction to the School of Materials and Energy
Yunnan University has carried out research and teaching work in materials science since the 1940s. It has successively established the Semiconductor Physics Teaching and Research Office, the Solid State Physics Teaching and Research Office, and the Condensed Matter Physics Teaching and Research Office. Since the 1980s, it has focused on semiconductor materials, amorphous alloys, superconducting ceramics, and metals.
A series of research and applications have been carried out on oxide-sensitive materials and high-performance antibacterial materials.
Obtained a master's degree in materials science and engineering in 2006, a master's degree in materials engineering in 2009, a doctoral degree in materials science and engineering in 2018, and a post-doctoral research flow in materials science and engineering in Yunnan Province stand.
The School of Materials Science and Engineering was established in 2015, and the Institute of Materials and Energy was established in 2019 by integrating the Institute of Energy Research and other institutions.
The college currently has 60 full-time teachers, including 16 professors and 32 associate professors. The proportion of doctoral degrees is 83%, and the proportion of teachers with foreign study and work experience reaches 56%.
Among the teachers, there is 1 New Century Outstanding Talent from the Ministry of Education, 1 National High-level Talent, and 29 Provincial High-level Talents.
At present, the college has formed a multi-level talent training system for undergraduates, masters of engineering, masters of engineering, doctors of engineering, and post-doctorate. There are nearly 700 full-time undergraduates and postgraduates.
After years of construction and accumulation, the school's discipline construction has made great progress, the discipline system has been further improved, the team construction has achieved remarkable results, the scientific research ability has been significantly improved, the service society ability has been continuously enhanced, and the overall level of the discipline has reached a new level.
According to the data released by the US Essential Science Indicator (ESI) in March 2021, Yunnan University's materials science has entered the top 1% of ESI's global ranking.
The current laboratory area of the college is about 15,000 square meters, and the equipment is about 200 million yuan.
Among them, the basic laboratory for undergraduate teaching covers an area of about 3,000 square meters, and has more than 25 million yuan in equipment for experimental teaching courses.

The research and development of precious metals and electromagnetic materials, environmental materials and devices, and new energy devices and technologies has advantages and characteristics, and has obtained ISO9001 quality system certification.
In terms of foreign exchanges and cooperation, the college has established with the University of Cambridge, University of Colorado, Berkeley National Laboratory, Southern University of Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Suzhou Nano Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yunnan Metallurgical Group and other domestic and foreign research institutes and enterprises.
